Trump warns he will respond if EU seeks Canada associate status
A commentary in the SCMP Economy argues that Washington’s approach to power abroad is most visible when close allies try to deepen ties with one another.
It points to an exchange in which EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed making Canada the EU’s first-ever associate member, and says U.S. President Donald Trump responded quickly and forcefully, warning that he would take “very serious” action if he viewed the move as hostile.
