China warns foreign spies crypto is being monitored
China’s Ministry of State Security said it will watch how cryptocurrencies are used by overseas anti-China forces to disrupt financial order.
Cointelegraph reports that China’s Ministry of State Security has toughened its stance on cryptocurrencies, warning that foreign spies and would-be operatives should be aware the blockchain ecosystem is under scrutiny.
According to Cointelegraph, the ministry said crypto transactions are not truly anonymous and pointed to the use of digital assets in crime, including alleged roles in money laundering and cyberattacks.
Cointelegraph also notes that the ministry characterized cryptocurrencies as being used by “overseas anti-China hostile forces” to disrupt financial order and harm national security.
In the same Asia Express roundup, Cointelegraph said Singapore’s crypto economy grew 55%, and South Korea is set to make crypto market makers legal.
