Crypto security losses hit $1.26B in Q3 amid major hacks
September accounted for about $769M of Q3 losses, and total incidents rose to 247, up roughly 13% from 219 in Q2.
Crypto security losses totaled $1.26 billion in the third quarter of 2026 across 247 incidents, according to blockchain security data cited by Cointelegraph. September alone accounted for roughly $769 million of the quarter’s losses.
Cointelegraph reports that the largest driver was Bitget’s $387.5 million hack, which represented about 31% of all Q3 losses under CertiK’s methodology. Total losses increased 53.9% from $819.4 million in Q2, while the number of security incidents rose about 13% from 219 to 247.
Cointelegraph also highlighted Liquid Network’s $319 million exploit on Sept. 6 as the second-largest incident in the quarter. Tectonic was next at $120 million, followed by Coldca at $112.7 million.
