Dollar slips below 102 after soft September jobs report
September payrolls rose 29K versus a 90K consensus, and unemployment moved up to 4.2%, helping pull Treasury yields down and weaken October Fed hike expectations.
Action Forex reports that September’s US employment report came in weaker than expected, with payrolls rising 29K against a 90K consensus, unemployment edging up to 4.2%, and wages undershooting expectations.
The outlet said Treasury yields fell and October Fed hike expectations collapsed into the low teens, driving the Dollar Index down and knocking it below 102.
Action Forex added that while the dollar retreated, the euro did not fully participate, with France’s sovereign-risk premium continuing to widen as the OAT-Bund spread faced renewed scrutiny.
The outlet said the next catalysts include the Fed’s October decision and whether the OAT-Bund spread keeps widening.
