Ethereum Foundation launches zkAPI for privacy-preserving API payments
zkAPI is live on Ethereum mainnet and uses zero-knowledge proofs after users deposit funds into an Ethereum vault, so providers cannot link requests to a payer.
The Ethereum Foundation launched zkAPI, a system designed to let users pay for AI models and other metered APIs without revealing their identities, according to The Block.
zkAPI works by having users deposit funds into an Ethereum vault and authorize spending using zero-knowledge proofs, which the Ethereum Foundation said prevents the API provider and payment server from linking requests to a specific payer.
The Foundation said it built zkAPI with the Open Anonymity Project, an open-source AI privacy effort, and that the service is already live on Ethereum mainnet.
The system was based on a design Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Ethereum Foundation dAI lead Davide Crapis published in February, The Block reported.
