US presses Europe to release diesel from emergency stockpiles
The White House said the additional diesel from Europe could raise global supplies and lower prices, helping avert a potential ban on US diesel exports.
The Trump administration has urged European allies to release diesel from national emergency stockpiles, Bloomberg reported Thursday, as a step to potentially avoid a ban on US exports of the critical fuel.
According to the report, the White House said that diesel added from Europe would increase global supplies and lower prices. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the additional supplies were meant to address ongoing disruptions in energy markets and to ensure US farmers, truckers, and businesses are not left carrying the burden of a diesel shortage.
One source cited by Bloomberg said Washington wants the European Union to release 120 million barrels of diesel over six months, framing it as an acceleration of existing commitments.
