FHA nominee Matt Jones outlines plans to add supply and cut costs
In confirmation testimony, HousingWire reports Jones said FHA streamlined more than 150 program requirements and noted FHA-insured loans help more than 3,000 families buy homes each business day, mostly first-time buyers.
Matt Jones, nominated for a dual role covering HUD and the FHA, told senators at his confirmation hearing that his priorities are increasing housing supply, reducing costs, and expanding access to homeownership, HousingWire reports. He said FHA-insured loans support home purchases for more than 3,000 families each business day, most of them first-time buyers.
According to HousingWire, Jones pointed to steps aimed at FHA process changes and highlighted manufactured housing as part of his approach. He also discussed restrictions on large, institutional investors and said FHA would adopt two additional credit score models in 2027.
HousingWire reported that Jones said the FHA streamlined more than 150 program requirements as part of the planned reforms discussed during his testimony.
