Great American seeks court ruling it owes nothing on studio theft claims
The complaint says copper thieves cut power lines and stripped five HVAC units from New Orleans soundstages that had been empty for nearly a year.
Great American Risk Solutions is asking a federal court to confirm it owes nothing on two burglary and theft claims tied to Starlight Studios in New Orleans, according to a complaint filed October 1, 2026, in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, as described by Insurance Business.
The insurer alleges thieves cut power lines, peeled back sheet metal siding, and stripped five commercial HVAC units at a soundstage complex on Old Gentilly Road. The complaint argues that coverage requirements the policyholder needed to meet had already failed.
Insurance Business reports the dispute involves two periodically leased soundstages, a 30,000-square-foot Stage 1 and a 12,000-square-foot Stage 2.
The filing says the last tenant left around February 2025, leaving both buildings empty for nearly a year before the claimed losses, and it cites multiple independent reasons coverage should not apply.
