Hong Kong airport authority takes back 11 Skies mall project
An adviser said the move will support the airport authority’s Skytopia blueprint, including shopping, dining, hospitality, and large-scale entertainment such as an indoor arena for more than 20,000.
Hong Kong airport authorities moving to take back the 11 Skies mall project is expected to help catalyze development of the airport’s aviation hub, according to a government adviser and a hospitality sector expert cited by SCMP Economy.
The comments came days after developer New World Development said it would return the project to the Airport Authority, with the adviser urging improved access and immersive entertainment to draw visitors.
SCMP Economy reports that Perry Yiu Pak-leung, a board member of the authority, said the decision supports other initiatives under the Skytopia blueprint, which calls for a destination spanning shopping, dining, hospitality, business, and entertainment.
Yiu highlighted related infrastructure, including an AsiaWorld-Expo Phase 2 indoor arena with seating capacity of more than 20,000, along with planned future yacht berths and other business activity under the same blueprint.
