Howden Re names Hayley Schell South Africa managing director

Schell will start the role on 1 November 2026 and previously worked at Swiss Re for eight years, most recently as Regional Manager P&C Southern Africa.

Howden Re has appointed Hayley Schell as Managing Director in South Africa, effective 1 November 2026, the reinsurance broker said.

Based in Johannesburg, Schell will report to Attilio Tornetta and work with Gary Ankcorn and the wider South African team.

The company said Schell brings more than 34 years of experience across non-life insurance and reinsurance broking and underwriting leadership, after eight years at Swiss Re.

Howden Re said the appointment is intended to further strengthen its commitment to growth in the South African market.
