Applied Systems CEO argues standalone insurance tech is a dead end

Blackwell said the key difference is integration that connects policy checking, quoting, and reconciliation across operations, trading, financing, and carriers.

Applied Systems CEO Graham Blackwell, speaking at AppliedNet 2026 in Washington DC, argued that standalone insurance tools and individual feature builds are limited because they do not provide the connectivity needed across the insurance workflow.

He acknowledged that rivals are also working on standalone efforts such as policy checking, quote comparison, and financial reconciliation, but said that each effort is ultimately just a feature that can be built by others.

Blackwell’s central claim was that Applied’s approach is to connect those capabilities across operations, trading, and financing, and also link out to carriers so the process can run continuously, without stopping, in his view.
