Insurer sues GE Appliances over alleged dryer-caused Ohio fire
Ohio Mutual says it paid more than $25,000 to homeowners under a policy, and the complaint was filed Aug. 31, 2026.
Ohio Mutual Insurance Company has filed a lawsuit alleging a GE-branded electric dryer short-circuited and caused a house fire in Ohio in September 2024 while the unit was still under its five-year warranty, Insurance Business reports.
The insurer alleges the manufacturer, Haier US Appliance Solutions, doing business as GE Appliances, sold a defective dryer, pointing to an alleged electrical conductor rubbing against a steel rod inside the appliance as the trigger for the fire.
Ohio Mutual is seeking to recover more than $25,000 in payments it says it made to its policyholders under a homeowners policy, the outlet reports.
The complaint was filed on Aug. 31, 2026, and the case is pending in the Southern District of Ohio, according to Insurance Business.
