ISM manufacturing PMI stays in expansion as price pressures rise
September manufacturing PMI held at 54.5, and ISM’s prices index jumped 6.8 points to 77.9 on tariff and petroleum related costs.
ISM’s manufacturing PMI for September edged down 0.1 point to 54.5 but stayed in expansion for a ninth straight month, according to Action Forex.
The release matched ISM’s assessment of annualized real GDP growth of 2.4%, while new orders rose 1.6 points to 55.3 and backlogs increased 4.6 points to 56.4, with customer inventories falling 1.2 points to 41.6.
Output eased, with the production index down 1.6 points to 56.7, and the employment index rose 1.5 points to 52.7, though only two of the six largest industries reported higher employment.
Price pressures intensified sharply, as the prices index surged 6.8 points to 77.9 amid higher steel and aluminum tariffs and petroleum related costs across all six major industries, Action Forex reported.
