MS Re warns emerging risks raise complex accumulation challenges
MS Reinsurance North America CUO Lisa Butera said new exposures including data centers, artificial intelligence and PFAS add accumulation risk even as US property reinsurance pricing softens.
Ahead of the Insurance Leadership Forum, MS Reinsurance North America CUO Lisa Butera said reinsurers need to keep underwriting discipline as US property reinsurance pricing comes under pressure from an influx of new capacity.
Reinsurance News reports Butera cautioned that favorable recent hurricane performance should not be taken as proof that underlying catastrophe risk is declining, noting that severe convective storm losses persist.
She also pointed to rising US casualty claims and growing complexity from emerging exposures, including data centers, artificial intelligence and PFAS, which she said can heighten accumulation risks.
The Insurance Leadership Forum, hosted by the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, runs in Colorado Springs from October 2 to 6, 2026, with MS Re focused on identifying well supported opportunities for growth as insurers look toward the January 1 renewal season.
