Opinion argues Britain needs a 20-year wellbeing economy plan

Guardian Economics publishes an opinion arguing Britain needs a long term, 20 year investment plan focused on green homes and fast transport.

The piece says existing tools could make the plan happen, but it argues that financial markets allocate capital toward areas like AI booms and share buybacks rather than clean energy or warm homes.

It also contends that car insurance costs for young people are almost £2,000 a year, and that gaps such as limited transport leave some young workers unable to take nearby jobs.

The author frames the proposal around government priorities including people’s security and better alignment of investment with needs such as wind turbines and council housing.
