Sony negotiates to become anchor tenant at 99 Hudson Boulevard
Commercial Observer reports Sony is seeking a larger Hudson Yards footprint because its current 11 Madison Avenue headquarters has no room to expand.
Sony is in negotiations to become the anchor tenant of Tishman Speyer’s 99 Hudson Boulevard in Hudson Yards, with Commercial Observer saying the company may have already advanced to a term sheet.
The outlet notes that Sony’s current U.S. headquarters is in the top 568,000 square feet of 11 Madison Avenue, and that the company is looking for a newer, bigger and more collaborative workplace for employees.
Commercial Observer also reports Sony signed a lease in 2013 and moved to 11 Madison after selling its 550 Madison Avenue headquarters in 2012 for $1.12 billion.
The article adds that Sony has faced expansion limits at 11 Madison because there is no room to grow in the 30-story building, which was originally designed in 1928 to reach 100 stories before a change in plans.
