Treasury Committee urges HMRC to review tax implications of Man City ruling
An independent commission found Manchester City guilty on all Premier League financial regulation charges covering the 2009-10 to 2017-18 seasons.
The UK Treasury Committee has urged HM Revenue and Customs to scrutinize the tax implications linked to Manchester City’s Premier League verdict, according to BBC Business.
The ruling follows confirmation that an independent commission found the club guilty on all charges tied to breaches of Premier League financial regulations across the 2009-10 through 2017-18 seasons.
City have denied guilt and have signaled they intend to lodge an appeal by Friday, while the commission said City “utilised devices” to disguise the true extent of certain club liabilities and that it artificially inflated revenue through “sham” sponsorship agreements involving the club’s owners.
The Treasury Committee, which oversees HMRC, asked whether HMRC has requested the redacted documents included in the commission’s report, with committee chair Dame Meg Hillier saying she would welcome reassurance that HMRC is addressing the public interest and importance of the issues.
