Trump AI rebrand sparks surge in Slovenia .si domain registrations
Registrations for .si web addresses hit 44,000 in September, up from under 2,000 in August, according to Slovenia’s national registry.
Slovenia’s official domain registry says Donald Trump’s push to rename AI may be behind an unprecedented jump in registrations for .si web addresses.
According to Register.si spokeswoman Klara Herman, 44,000 .si web addresses were registered in September, compared with less than 2,000 in August, an increase of more than 2,100%.
Herman said the registration activity seen in late September was unprecedented versus the previous 12 months, and that the September spike stood out clearly against other months.
Trump called for AI to be renamed during a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on 11 September, urging adoption of the term “super intelligence” and the initials “SI.”
