UK average diesel price tops £2 a litre as fuel costs rise
Diesel averaged 200.01p a litre in the UK, while petrol rose to 174.71p a litre, the RAC said.
The UK’s average diesel price has risen above £2 a litre for the first time, the RAC motoring body said, citing ongoing pressure from the Iran war that is pushing up fuel costs.
The RAC put diesel at an average of 200.01p a litre and said petrol prices also continued to increase, reaching 174.71p a litre on average.
The motoring group said the price rises were showing no signs of slowing and warned they were adding to financial strain for drivers.
The BBC said the US has increased pressure on European countries to release more diesel stocks, amid President Trump’s threat to ban US exports of the fuel, which would likely keep diesel prices lower in the US but raise them elsewhere, including in the UK and the EU.
