US September nonfarm payrolls due Friday as markets watch USD
Economists forecast payrolls rising 90K in September after August’s 162K increase, with the unemployment rate expected to stay at 4.1%.
FXStreet notes that the US Bureau of Labor Statistics will release September nonfarm payrolls on Friday at 12:30 GMT, a data point investors are watching for implications for Federal Reserve policy and the US dollar’s valuation.
The outlet says expectations call for September payrolls to increase by 90K after August’s 162K gain, while the unemployment rate is expected to remain at 4.1%.
FXStreet also highlights that monthly wage inflation, measured by the change in Average Hourly Earnings, is projected to hold at 0.3%, and that August’s data helped underpin the Fed’s decision to raise the policy rate by 25 basis points in September.
The article adds that the Fed said job gains have kept pace with the workforce and that unemployment has changed little, following a statement that also emphasized increases in openings and hours.
