US nonfarm payrolls rose 29K in September, missing forecasts
The unemployment rate edged up to 4.2% and annual wage inflation slowed to 3.0%, according to the BLS.
US nonfarm payrolls rose by 29K in September, according to a US Bureau of Labor Statistics release, coming in well below the 90K expected by markets.
The BLS said the prior months were revised, with August employment growth revised to 133K from 162K, and July revised down by 31K from +21K to -10K, leaving combined July and August employment 60K lower than previously reported.
Other details included an unemployment rate increase to 4.2% and labor force participation rising to 61.8% from 61.6%.
Annual wage growth, measured by average hourly earnings, increased 3.0% year over year, below the 3.2% estimate cited by FXStreet. The US Dollar Index fell 0.23% to 101.80 immediately after the report, according to FXStreet.
