Zano attacker minted 1.8 quadrillion fUSD before blockchain rollback
Zano said the attacker created 36.9 million ZANO and 1.8 quadrillion Freedom Dollar tokens after exploiting a Gateway Address vulnerability.
Zano said an attacker exploited a Gateway Address vulnerability and minted tokens before the project decided to roll its blockchain back by about a month, according to Cointelegraph.
The outlet reports that Zano told readers the attacker used the exploit to create 36.9 million Zano (ZANO) and 1.8 quadrillion Freedom Dollar (fUSD) tokens, and that the unauthorized coins were indistinguishable from legitimate ZANO.
Cointelegraph also reported that Zano said the team could not remove the unauthorized coins without rolling back the blockchain, and that the exploitation began on Aug. 29, when the attacker created approximately 18.4 million ZANO in a single transaction.
The article notes an update on Oct. 2 that included a comment from Zano head of marketing and growth, Quinten van Welzen.
