Zano says an attacker minted 36.9M unauthorized ZANO before rollback

Zano said the exploit began Aug. 29 with a single transaction that created about 18.4M ZANO, then was repeated on Sept. 25 for another 18.4M before the team rolled the blockchain back.

Zano said an attacker exploited a Gateway Address vulnerability to mint 36.9 million unauthorized ZANO before the project decided to roll its blockchain back by about a month, according to Cointelegraph.

In a Thursday post-mortem, Zano said the attacker first used the vulnerability on Aug. 29 to create approximately 18.4 million ZANO in a single transaction, then repeated the exploit on Sept. 25 to mint another 18.4 million ZANO.

Zano added that the attacker used the same method to create Freedom Dollar, or fUSD, tokens, and said the unauthorized coins were indistinguishable from legitimate ZANO.

The team said it was unable to remove the unauthorized tokens without rolling the blockchain back.
