FPIs withdrew ₹35,860 crore from Indian equities in September
Foreign investors sold ₹35,860 crore of Indian equities in September, reversing inflows in July and August as Nifty 50 and Sensex both fell nearly 6%.
Foreign portfolio investors returned to selling Indian equities in September after two straight months of inflows, according to LiveMint Markets, underscoring concerns that extend beyond regulatory ease for getting invested.
LiveMint Markets said FPIs withdrew ₹35,860 crore from Indian equities in September, reversing July investment of ₹20,200 crore and August investment of ₹29,630 crore, based on depository data reported after month end.
The outlet added that September selling coincided with a steep correction in Indian equities, with the Nifty 50 and Sensex each declining almost 6%.
LiveMint Markets reported that SEBI has been working to simplify onboarding and reduce regulatory friction with the RBI, and it cited SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey saying the regulator is trying to address operational hurdles faced by foreign investors.
