Hong Kong probe launched over alleged steel bar shortage at One Stanley

Authorities said earlier inspections did not find imminent danger, while a complaint alleged steel bar numbers fell as much as 75.0% versus approved plans.

Hong Kong authorities have launched a probe into the building quality of the luxury One Stanley residential development in Stanley, after an owner complained that construction used insufficient steel bars, South China Morning Post reported. The Buildings Department said it was highly concerned, but added that its previous inspections did not find any imminent danger related to the project.

The department said it will interview the developer, contractors, and other parties responsible for the development. Public concerns grew after a report from online property news platform WuChatProp alleged that an on site inspection found steel bars in some parts of the property were insufficient.

According to the WuChatProp report cited by the outlet, the number of steel bars used fell short by as much as 75.0% of what the approved building plans required.
