Japan adds Garantex to Russia sanctions list

Japan placed Garantex on an asset freeze list, restricting payments and capital transactions with the targeted parties.

Cointelegraph reports that Japan expanded its sanctions against Russia over the ongoing war in Ukraine, adding the Russian cryptocurrency exchange Garantex to its asset freeze list.

According to a joint statement from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the asset freeze restricts payments and capital transactions with targeted parties.

The report also notes that Garantex had previously been sanctioned by the United States, the European Union, and other jurisdictions for helping Russian entities evade financial restrictions.
