HK owners of 14 subsidised flats seek grace period under subdividing rules
Hong Kong’s housing secretary said leasing a subsidised sale flat without paying the premium is against the law.
Hong Kong’s housing minister said owners of 14 subsidised sale flats have applied for a grace period to comply with the territory’s new regulatory regime for subdivided homes, a development that has prompted concerns about possible abuse of public resources, according to SCMP Economy.
The cases were disclosed at a Legislative Council housing panel meeting on Monday after a lawmaker asked the secretary about the use of Home Ownership Scheme flats as subdivided units for renting, SCMP Economy reported.
The housing minister said flats sold under the government-subsidised Home Ownership Scheme are deemed a form of social welfare and should not be used for profiteering.
She also said it is illegal for an owner to lease a subsidised sale flat without having paid the premium, SCMP Economy reported.
