NZD/USD holds near 0.5600 as NZ business confidence improves

NZD/USD was just above 0.5600 after a fresh dip back toward its November 2025 low, as a NZIER survey showed fewer firms raising prices.

The New Zealand dollar stayed near its recent lows versus the US dollar, with NZD/USD trading just above 0.5600 after a fresh low that took the pair back toward its November 2025 low, according to FXStreet.

FXStreet cited a NZIER survey released at 21:00 GMT on Monday showing firms were more upbeat, with a net 43% expecting business conditions to improve, up from 8%. The same survey also showed trading was flat to slightly weaker, the share of firms reporting higher costs fell to a net 47% from 54%, and fewer firms raised prices, which the outlet said lowers the risk of higher fuel costs feeding into broader inflation.

FXStreet linked the currency move to rate expectations for the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, which raised its Official Cash Rate to 2.75% in September, its second hike since July. It noted traders have been positioning for another hike on October 28, and said softer pricing in the survey weakens those bets even as the RBNZ could still move again on that date.

The outlet added that RBNZ Governor Breman is scheduled to speak on Thursday, with the only New Zealand event noted through Friday, and that a September rate track had October down as a pause. FXStreet also referenced New Zealand’s third-quarter Consumer Price Index as the next data item in the discussion.
