Pentagon officials to work at Taiwan defence ministry headquarters
The planned Taiwan-US Joint Cooperation Assessment programme runs from this year through 2028, with a budget of more than NT$471 million, including NT$152.5 million this year for expenses tied to US personnel and consultancy costs.
A reported plan for US defense personnel to work inside Taiwan’s military headquarters centers on the Pentagon sending one Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy official and an expert from the Institute for Defence Analyses (IDA) to the defense ministry’s headquarters in Taipei on a longer term basis, according to Taiwanese media coverage summarized by SCMP Economy.
The officials would support policy coordination and combat capability assessments under an expanded “Taiwan-US Defence Ministry Joint Cooperation Assessment” programme, which the reports say would run from this year to 2028.
The programme is described as having a total budget of more than NT$471 million (US$14.8 million), including NT$152.5 million allocated for this year.
That current year spending would cover expenses such as US personnel and consultancy costs, travel, research equipment and data collection, the report added.
