Safe-haven demand rises as Middle East tensions hit risk sentiment
U.S. stock index futures were mixed, with Dow Jones futures down 0.1% and S&P 500 futures down 0.1% in European trading.
Dow Jones and S&P 500 futures edged lower while Nasdaq 100 futures were steady in European trading Monday, as investors turned cautious and increased demand for safe-haven assets, FXStreet reports.
The risk-off tone was linked to sharp escalation in Middle East tensions, including a Saudi-backed offensive in Yemen and the Iran-aligned group seizing the Bab el-Mandeb strait, a key maritime chokepoint for crude exports.
FXStreet said the broader market complex found some underlying support after softer U.S. jobs data eased pressure on the Federal Reserve to keep raising interest rates.
Investors are also watching the release of the U.S. ISM Services Purchasing Managers Index later in the day for further direction, according to FXStreet.
