Southeast Asia sees more upstream oil and gas M&A activity
Rystad Energy data points to $9.6 billion in upstream assets available for deals through 2027.
Southeast Asia is emerging as a more active market for upstream oil and gas mergers and acquisitions as the region’s deal focus shifts from non-core exits by international oil companies to strategic buying, according to OilPrice citing Rystad Energy research.
The report highlights $9.6 billion in upstream assets available for the remainder of this year and through 2027, suggesting a competitive cycle ahead as buyers reposition for new supply and ownership stakes.
OilPrice also notes that Sarawak, the Andaman Sea, and the Kutei Basin are among the emerging deal hotspots, with national oil companies and state-linked firms increasingly positioned to acquire assets from majors and independents.
