Survey finds housing costs are driving households to cut expenses
The Habitat for Humanity survey of 30,000 people across 22 countries found 48% say a single shock could threaten housing, and 42% of US non homeowners do not expect to own a home.
HousingWire reports that a Habitat for Humanity survey of 30,000 people across 22 countries found 75% of respondents cut expenses to cope with the cost-of-living crisis, including costs related to housing.
The report also found 48% of respondents say one shock could threaten housing, and that housing costs are pushing households into trade-offs that can reduce access to essentials like food and health care.
HousingWire says the research, titled "Home at What Cost?", examines the full burden of housing beyond rent or mortgage payments, including other necessities people give up to stay housed.
In the US, the survey found 42% of non homeowners do not expect to ever own a home, according to HousingWire.
