ZachXBT says he fronted $349,700 to track Lazarus Bybit loot

The Decrypt story links a Feb 2025 Bybit exploit to $1.5 billion in losses and says the FBI attributed it to North Korean hackers.

On-chain sleuth ZachXBT says he wired $349,700 to people moving crypto he believed was tied to Lazarus Group activity, describing the move as part of an effort to track stolen funds in real time.

Decrypt reports ZachXBT said he posed as a client of a Chinese organized crime syndicate and would take a cut of 5% on each order while gathering intelligence that he says helped action freezes for the Feb 2025 Bybit exploit.

The outlet says that exploit caused $1.5 billion in losses for Bybit, and it adds that the FBI attributed the incident to North Korean hackers it tracks as TraderTraitor.

ZachXBT also described the alleged launderers as not fully hiding, and Decrypt notes he has built investigations around public blockchain data, continuing work even after a former target sued and doxxed him in 2023.
