Ten tokens dominated altcoin futures open interest in Talos data
Talos found altcoin futures open interest reached a record 5.6% of market capitalization, with SOL funding below zero and PUMP funding at +21.8% annualized in its Sep. 24-30 snapshot.
Talos’s weekly market report for Sept. 24 to 30, 2026 found concentrated derivatives exposure in the altcoin market, with ten tokens accounting for 62% of outstanding altcoin futures open interest.
The same snapshot showed the open interest-to-market-cap ratio at 5.6%, described as a record in Talos’s series, and it highlighted how funding rates can differ by token even when open interest is high.
In the report, SOL funding was below zero while PUMP funding reached +21.8% annualized, illustrating that perpetual futures financing burdens depend on the contract, the side, and the funding interval.
CryptoSlate also noted that later Binance settlements can quickly change the paying sides across specific contracts, because positive funding rates transfer money from long holders to short holders and negative rates reverse that direction.
