UK opposition shadow chancellor outlines plans to cut taxes and red tape

The proposals also include steps aimed at lowering food costs and supporting Heathrow Airport expansion.

BBC Business reports that UK Conservative shadow chancellor Andrew Griffith is set to outline his plans for the economy on day two of the party conference in Birmingham, including hopes to cut taxes, red tape, and house building costs.

The outlet says Griffith and other shadow ministers will also discuss policies intended to reduce food costs and to support Heathrow Airport expansion, alongside proposals to abolish Natural England and the Environment Agency.

BBC Business adds that another element under consideration is replacing agreements meant to require developers to fund community projects and services in areas they plan to build.

The story notes Reform UK claimed the Conservatives are copying its policies, and it says Griffiths speech follows Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch publishing a 100 page document outlining her party's guiding principles and approach if it returns to government after the next general election.
