US to announce $150 million for Alaska power transmission lines
The Energy Department plan would support construction of 359 km of new transmission lines linking Beluga with Healy.
The US Energy Department will announce US$150 million in new funding for Alaska power transmission lines on Monday, according to SCMP Economy, as Vice President J.D. Vance visits the state.
The plan would use federal funds to help build 359 km, or 223 miles, of electrical transmission lines connecting the Beluga power station on Alaska’s southern coast with Healy in the state’s interior.
SCMP Economy also links the timing of the announcement to the midterm campaign, noting Vance is set to rally voters for Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan in a tight re election contest against Democrat Mary Peltola.
The article adds the funding is part of a broader set of economic and investment announcements highlighted by President Donald Trump and his administration ahead of the November midterms.
