Woman charged with written threat after Claude diary review

Investigators said Anthropic’s platform flagged threatening content for human review, and the company’s terms allow sharing data with law enforcement to prevent serious harm.

A Florida woman, Carli Michelle Heller of Bonita Springs, was arrested and charged with making a written threat of violence after investigators reviewed content she posted using Claude as a diary, Decrypt reported. According to the report, investigators found that on Sept. 26 Heller wrote she would “shoot up” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and subsequent Claude conversations indicated she had gotten a new gun by the next day. The arrest report said Anthropic’s platform monitors for key phrases and threatening content. Because of the severity of the statements, Decrypt said Anthropic sent the material to a human review team, which then reported it to law enforcement. Deputies identified Heller and detained her at her home without incident, the outlet reported.
