Advanced Navigation expands manufacturing in Huntsville for mining tech
The expansion is backed by a $110 million Series C round and targets mining autonomy in GPS-denied conditions.
Advanced Navigation America, the US unit of global robotics company Advanced Navigation, said it is expanding manufacturing in Huntsville, Alabama, to build and deliver high-precision mining navigation technology, according to Mining.com.
The company said the move is supported by a $110 million Series C round and will create a Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Center of Excellence that will research, develop, and manufacture technologies including fiber optics, MEMS, laser sensing, photonics, vision-based systems, AI, and quantum sensing.
Advanced Navigation America said the systems are designed to help autonomous systems in mining and heavy industries maintain precise vehicle positioning in deep, dark, and unmapped environments where GPS cannot reach.
Mining.com also reported that the company said the investment will accelerate U.S. mergers and acquisitions and expand the technologies available to mining operators, with the goal of improving navigation in GPS-denied areas and reducing reliance on human intervention in hazardous locations.
