Asos shares drop after app access raises data compromise concerns
The company said basic personal information, such as customers’ names and contact details, might have been accessed, while it did not believe payment card records or passwords were compromised.
Asos warned customers that data may have been compromised after it said its app systems were accessed by an unidentified third party.
The U.K. online fashion retailer said basic personal information, including customers’ name and contact details, might have been accessed, following shoppers receiving notifications claiming hackers had fully compromised its data.
Asos also said it does not believe payment card records or passwords were compromised, even as it investigates the unauthorised activity.
According to the report, Asos shares fell 11% after the disclosure, and the company said it took immediate action to restrict access to the notification platforms and is working with internal and external advisers and relevant authorities.
