Canada widens trade surplus to $4.2 billion in August

Exports rebounded in August, with energy product shipments rising 4.7% month on month.

Canada’s trade surplus widened to $4.2 billion in August, up from $787 million in the prior month, marking a sixth straight month of surplus, according to Action Forex.

Exports increased 2.5% month on month in August after a temporary pullback in July.

Energy product exports rose 4.7% month on month, helped by higher shipments of crude oil, diesel, and nuclear fuel.

The outlet also cited stronger consumer goods exports, which rose 6.6% month on month in August.
