Huanggang Port joint clearance requires registration on both sides
Hong Kong expects the revamped Huanggang Port crossing to handle about 100,000 travelers a day when the automated joint clearance channels begin operating.
Hong Kong and mainland Chinese residents will need to register with immigration authorities on both sides of the border to use automated “joint clearance” channels at the revamped Huanggang Port crossing, according to SCMP Economy. The control point is expected to handle around 100,000 travellers per day when operations begin.
Hong Kong’s Immigration Department plans to deploy sufficient staff to help passengers register at the checkpoint, assistant director Jacky Wong Ki said. Wong added that the registration process at the automated channel is intended to take only a few seconds.
SCMP Economy reports that the “joint clearance” model is designed to let passengers complete both departure and entry clearance procedures by presenting one identity document required by their destination and passing through a three-gated automated channel.
