HDI Global launches international healthcare liability unit
The insurer said healthcare liability placements are taking longer as demand rises and capacity, especially at the upper layers, keeps tightening.
HDI Global has launched a global healthcare solutions unit, an international healthcare liability offering built on its German medical malpractice business, and it appointed Colin Lavey as head effective September 1, according to Insurance Business.
The new unit is designed to serve healthcare providers, allied health organizations, long-term care operators, and emerging health businesses across international markets, with HDI leveraging underwriting capabilities developed in Germany and its local market infrastructure.
HDI said the rollout reflects tougher conditions in the healthcare liability market, where placements have become more difficult.
Insurance Business cited growing demand for healthcare liability coverage alongside contracting capacity, particularly at upper tower layers, which has led to longer placement timelines and more carriers needed to build each programme.
