India stocks slide for eight straight weeks as foreign outflows mount

Sensex and Nifty have posted losses for eight straight weeks, and foreign investors have withdrawn about $40 billion over the past two years.

India’s economy is still growing at more than 7%, but the country’s equity market has been among the worst performers in 2026, with the latest correction intensifying in recent weeks, according to BBC Business.

The benchmark Sensex and Nifty, which track the largest listed companies, inched up slightly after losses for eight straight weeks, the longest losing streak in 25 years cited by Reuters.

Retail investors have seen their wealth tied to the Nifty erode by about 15% this year. For comparison, BBC Business points to much stronger performance over the same periods in other markets such as Korea’s Kospi.

BBC Business also highlights that foreign flows into India have effectively stalled, with net foreign investment nearing zero over the past decade after subtracting withdrawals, and foreign institutional investors pulling out about $40 billion in the past two years.
