Insurers seek median 15% ACA premium hikes for 2027
For 2027, requests ranged from a 1% decrease to a 54% increase, with 51 carriers asking for more than 25%.
Health insurers are seeking double digit increases for ACA marketplace premiums for 2027 for a second year in a row, according to Insurance Business, with the median proposed rate hike set at 15% across 276 insurers in all 50 states and Washington, DC.
State requests varied widely, from cuts such as 3% in Vermont to 29% in Arizona, with overall submissions ranging from a 1% cut to a 54% hike.
The enrollment weighted national average is also close to 15% based on ACA Signups estimates, and Insurance Business notes that last year the median finalized increase was 20%.
If the current requests hold, KFF said typical marketplace premiums would rise by more than a third over two years, after premiums in the market had largely been flat for much of the prior decade.
