Pudgy Penguins' Abstract Ethereum layer-2 to shut down Dec. 15
Abstract, a ZK-rollup built by Igloo Inc., said funds left on the network after Dec. 15 will be inaccessible.
Abstract, the Ethereum layer-2 network built by Igloo Inc. for Pudgy Penguins, will shut down on Dec. 15, according to a Dec. 15 shutdown announcement shared on X. The team said the chain, focused on a consumer crypto niche, proved difficult to scale and will go dark after the deadline.
Users are being told to move assets off the network before Dec. 15 using Abstract's Migration Hub or its native bridge, which the team said includes a three-hour delay. The team warned that funds left behind after the deadline will be inaccessible.
Abstract said it is also helping other projects migrate to different chains and attributed its stalled growth to a limited DeFi ecosystem, thin on-chain liquidity, little crossover with institutions, and a smaller budget than rivals. By its own count, the network processed more than 325 million transactions and logged over $6 billion in decentralized exchange volume, generating more than $40 million in ecosystem revenue, while users created more than 4 million Abstract Global Wallets.
Abstract added that brands including Red Bull Racing and Disney used the chain to reach audiences and described the system as a ZK-rollup. In its message, the team said operating a chain focused exclusively on consumer crypto has proven unsustainable as a standalone model.
