Romain Zago seeks to reopen South Beach’s Cameo Theater as a venue

The proposal would convert the 17,589-square-foot Art Deco building into a 466-seat restaurant and lounge, with a Planning Board hearing set for Nov. 3.

Nightlife operator Romain Zago wants to reopen South Beach’s historic Cameo Theater, about seven years after a nightclub shuttered at the site, according to Commercial Observer.

Zago has filed plans to transform the Art Deco venue at 1445 Washington Avenue into a restaurant and lounge, with a total capacity of 466 seats. The proposal calls for a bar and lounge with 226 seats on the ground floor, keeping the existing stage, and a 240-seat restaurant on the second floor.

The plans also describe a bar and lounge alcohol license permitting sales until 5 A.M., and they cite MainRo, a club and restaurant Zago launched in Hollywood, Calif., as the likely template for the concept.

Commercial Observer reports that the project is expected to be reviewed by the Miami Beach Planning Board on Nov. 3.
