Sebi investor protection fund grows to ₹969.8 crore, spending lags
Sebi spent ₹4.7 crore in FY26, using just 0.4% of the fund while expenditure rose 2.2% from FY23.
Sebi’s Investor Protection and Education Fund (IPEF) has expanded nearly four-fold to ₹969.8 crore in FY26 from FY23 levels, according to a Mint analysis of Sebi data reported by LiveMint Markets.
Despite the growth, the regulator’s spending from the fund rose only 2.2% over the period to ₹4.7 crore, which implies it used just 0.4% of IPEF in FY26.
Industry stakeholders cited by LiveMint Markets said the fund is likely underutilized due to the absence of clear directions and directives, even as risks from financial influencers and digital arrests loom.
The issue has also reached government attention, with officials still deciding what to do next, LiveMint Markets added.
