US hashrate declines while Russia grows in Bitcoin mining mix
In Hashrate Index estimates for Oct. 5, the US fell to about 335 EH/s from 345 EH/s, while Russia rose to about 170 EH/s from 162 EH/s, lifting its network share to 18.1%.
According to Hashrate Index data published by CryptoSlate, Bitcoin estimated hashrate shifted modestly across mining geographies in the latest comparison, with the US declining while Russia increased. The US was estimated at about 335 EH/s, down from 345 EH/s in the prior edition, while Russia rose to about 170 EH/s from 162 EH/s.
CryptoSlate said the top three countries, the US, Russia and China, still account for roughly 66% of estimated network hashrate, with their combined share slipping by about 0.8% even as the global hashrate estimate was described as nearly flat.
The outlet reported that the US share fell from 36.7% to 35.6%, while Russia gained both estimated hashrate and share, rising from 17.2% to 18.1%.
CryptoSlate noted that the October publication is a fourth quarter update that reflects observations from the preceding third quarter, and it is not a completed fourth quarter result or a live census of mining activity on Oct. 6. The comparison separates absolute mining activity from network share.
