Asos says hackers accessed customers’ personal data in a breach

The retailer said it completed a 48-hour investigation and that card details and passwords were not accessed.

Asos said an unidentified third party accessed millions of customers’ personal data, but the company said card details and passwords were not taken, according to The Guardian Business. The data included recent search histories, names, addresses, delivery email addresses, and phone numbers.

The outlet reported that the breach surfaced on Tuesday after app users received a notification titled “Asos hacked,” which included a link to the Telegram messaging service. Asos also said customers’ typed search terms were among the information accessed in the cyber attack, with examples including “glamorous wide fit” and “Asos petite.”

Asos said it was working with legal and regulatory authorities, and that its website and app were safe to use. The company confirmed on Thursday that basic personal information had been accessed after what it described as a detailed, 48-hour investigation.
