CK Asset to demolish and rebuild half of starter homes in Hong Kong

The Buildings Department approved demolition plans for three of six towers at the Anderson Road project in Kwun Tong after investigations found steel reinforcement discrepancies and related arrests.

CK Asset plans to demolish and rebuild three of six residential buildings at its Hong Kong “starter homes” project in Kwun Tong, according to SCMP Economy. The Buildings Department confirmed on Thursday that demolition plans for the three blocks have been approved, while remedial work continues at the other three buildings.

The move follows a two-year halt to construction tied to a scandal over substandard steel reinforcement work. Investigations found discrepancies between steel reinforcement installed in parts of the six towers and the approved plans, including fewer reinforcing bars than required.

SCMP Economy also reported that ten people were arrested in connection with the project on suspicion of bribery and other offences. The developer described the demolition and rebuild approach as the most “time-saving” solution.
